Apprentice Spotlight: Joshua Davidson Shines at Queensland World Skills Competition
We’re excited to highlight the achievement of our apprentice, Joshua Davidson, who recently competed in the Queensland World Skills Competition in the Engineering Mechanical category. Hosted by G & O Kert in Brisbane and now in the 4th stage of his Mechanical Fitting apprenticeship, Joshua took on a challenging set of tasks, showcasing his impressive precision and skill.
The competition, held at SkillsTech, was a fitting and machining heat for World Skills and required competitors to demonstrate advanced techniques on manual lathes. Tasks included precise thread cutting, knurling, grooving, eccentric boring (off-center), and machining to exceptionally tight tolerances. Joshua demonstrated remarkable ability in each of these tasks, taking 2nd place and narrowly missing the top spot by an incredibly slim margin of 0.02mm.
Though he won’t progress further in this year’s competition, his outstanding result is a significant accomplishment, especially for a first-time competitor. This experience has undoubtedly strengthened his expertise and given him valuable exposure to high-level skills in the field. Congratulations to Joshua!
We look forward to seeing where his journey in the trade will lead him next.
