Apprentice of the Month: December 2023
Our Apprentice of the Month for December is Mitch McIvor!
This year’s final Apprentice of the Month is Mitch McIvor. Mitch is a terrific individual whose passion for plumbing and commitment to the trade are commendable.
He commenced his Cert III in plumbing (roof) apprenticeship in July and found a welcoming host at JR D’Herville Roofing Contractors in Bendigo, Victoria.
With support from JR D’Herville, we have been able to make work a little easier for Mitch, who is deaf. We applied for funding through the Disabled Australian Apprentice Wage Support Program — which provides financial assistance for apprentices with disabilities to access tools and workplace supports — to equip Mitch with an Apple watch.
The smart watch has improved communication with Mitch by allowing him to receive texts while on the job. Mitch’s colleagues and supervisors have continued efforts to welcome him by learning basic sign language.
Their support not only enhances workplace dynamics but exemplifies the company’s commitment to inclusivity.
We are thrilled Mitch is progressing so well and thriving in such a positive work environment.
Well done, Mitch, and all the best with the rest of your apprenticeship and your future career!
Our Host
JR D’Herville is a roofing contractor based in Bendigo Victoria. The team at JR D’Herville have been an amazingly supportive host company to many apprentices during their journeys with us. They have been particularly supportive of employing young people in the Bendigo area to ensure they can start their journeys in to trades.
We thank the entire team for their support and look forward to continuing this excellent partnership.
