Apprentice of the Month: January 2024
Our Apprentice of the Month for January is Harvey Mitchem!
Harvey has received much praise from all who have interacted with him over the first stages of his apprenticeship. He commenced his Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship in January 2022 and has been thoroughly enjoying his time at TAFE and with his host company, Hitachi Global Air Power (formerly Sullair Australia), in Dandenong, Victoria.
Harvey’s Ai Group Apprentice & Trainee Centre (Ai Group ATC) Employment Consultant, Matt Muller, said he was impressed with Harvey’s willingness to learn and continually improve and hone his skills.
Matt said Harvey devours knowledge, which not only improves his skills in the workplace, but also assists him with his passions outside of work.
Harvey is a keen fisherman and loves all things 4WD. The skills he is gaining through his apprenticeship enable him to carry out custom upgrades to his 4WD. He and his mates are continually improving their vehicles to go off-road to find great places to fish.
In our eyes, and in those of his workplace supervisors, Harvey embodies the ideal apprentice: humble, attentive and driven — attributes that pave the way to a long-term, secure career.
A motived and conscientious TAFE student, Harvey also receives regular positive feedback on his impressive performance and dedication to learning. A recent TAFE progress report said he would be an ideal candidate to compete in the 2024 World Skills Competition, so we anticipate more great things from Harvey in coming months.
The team at Hitachi celebrated Harvey’s Apprentice of the Month award with a special presentation during which he received a voucher, tools and a certificate.

Well done, Harvey, and all the best with the rest of your apprenticeship and your future career!
